Greek island pictures
Villages of Skopelos island

On this page I will present you Greek island pictures of Skopelos in the order you find them on the road starting from Skopelos town. There is only one main street bringing you along the beautiful, green, ragged coastline from the South West where you find the main town, until up to Glossa and Loutraki in the North West. As the first of the island villages and closest to the main town let us discover Agnondas.

Agnondas is a really small fishing village, but hosts the important secondary port of Skopelos. It is a sheltered bay, and during high winds, when the harbor in Skopelos town gets too dangerous, the ships land here. Agnondas is to reach in about 10 minutes by car, so organizing transport back to town is not that difficult, though challenging sometimes, as mobile phones hardly work in the area. But for the case of a ship landing, taxis are always informed, and sooner or later, everyone gets picked up. There is also a regular bus connection, so - no worries ever!

Agnondas

Agnondas is famous for two things: great fish tavernas and incredible sun sets. This can easily be combined while dining at beautiful Agnondas beach. Also daytime Agnondas is a good choice, as the beach has easy access, a great setting with pine trees down until the sea, and a comfortable cafe. We will visit Panormos next, always beware of goats on the road...

Goats on the Road

Panormos is a village stretched along an impressing bay with some tavernas and mini markets. Panormos beach has very easy access and is ideal for families.

You can spend all day here, as you can find everything you need for many hours in the sun and your daily provisions. At the far end of the beach you can rent small motor boats. There is enough parking available throughout the village. Here are two Greek island pictures for you of Panormos:

The road continues to Elios or Neo Klima. In the mid sixties the area faced a big earthquake that destroyed many houses of Paleo Klima on the hillside, so the inhabitants had to move to shelters further South.

After a while the people got comfortable there down by the sea, so they stayed and developed a great village retreat with the best of the islands' beaches close by. If we have some hours, we go there on weekends for a swim and great Mediterranean food. Some Greek island pictures for you again:

Paleo Klima, as mentioned before, is the town that faced major damages at the earthquake. At the end of last century some Greeks from the mainland and foreigners stated interest in the abandoned houses, bought quite some of them and turned them into holiday homes. A few stay all the year.

Cars park outside, even more a reason you will find the place ever so relaxing. Sure this little settlement is worth a short visit.

Soon after we reach the traditional village of Glossa, perched high in the hills above Port Loutraki. About Glossa, this fantastic and spectacular town, I have prepared more pictures on an additional page. For our island tour, the following two descriptive images shall give you the first impressions, to take a stroll to Glossa straight away, just click here and come back after.

Glossa is the second important town on our island in the sun and is full of atmosphere. Even the most resisting soul has to admit the overwhelming feel of ancient times transported into the present. Again cars can't be used within the narrow streets, you have to park outside this MUST SEE village. It is absolutely worth a visit.

Continuing down to the sea, the last station of our tour of Greek island pictures is Loutraki. Port Loutraki is a friendly little place with another harbor, a few shops and tavernas.

Visitors reach Loutraki within 15 minutes by boat from the neighbor island of Skiathos, that hosts our closest airport.
